Located at the front part of our brain lies our prefrontal cortex. This is where the domain for Executive Function is housed. The role of our Executive Function is kind of like an air traffic controller or the CEO of our body: it’s constantly supervising and directing us to analyze, plan, organize, prioritize and actually EXECUTE our most important tasks.
The tricky part about Executive Function is that it requires time to develop and mature. Research suggests that this process can continue well into our mid to late 20’s - and for some neurodivergent learners - even later.
SO HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO SUPPORT OUR MOST PRECIOUS GIFTS - OUR CHILDREN - AS THEY NAVIGATE THEIR WAY THROUGH LIFE???
